Seeking Expressions of Interest for attendance at Roundtable Event on Directors Duties 101 for Agriculture
Future Farmers Network (FFN), in partnership with Clayton Utz, is seeking expressions of interest for members interested in participating in a round table education workshop on Director Duties for Governance Boards.

Guest speakers Andrew Hay and Brett Cook will join FFN Chair Caitlin McConnel and CEO Adele Laughton for an in-depth discussion and Q&A session over a boardroom lunch.

The session will be best suited to those wishing to learn more about what is involved in sitting on a Board and becoming a Director, with a special focus and insights from within the agriculture industry.

Whether you’re a primary producer, agribusiness professional or someone involved and working in the sector, this is a great opportunity to upskill and learn from industry experts on these topics.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to attend, individuals must be:

  • FFN member; regular, student or alumni at the time of applying; and
  • be able to attend in person on the dates and times below

Speakers
Andrew Hay – Partner, Clayton Utz
Andrew is a senior partner within the firm’s Corporate Advisory/M&A practice with over 25 years’ experience as a corporate adviser to leading Australian and international companies.  He leads the Clayton Utz Japan and Agribusiness & Food group nationally and advises across agri-sectors, including on the restructure, acquisition and disposal of companies involved in cattle farming, horticulture, food manufacturing, sugar and dairy.   Andrew is recognised by Best Lawyers Australia (Agricultural & Rural Affairs) and Doyle’s Guide (Agribusiness) for his expertise in the sector.

Andrew also brings extensive Board experience and is involved in several organisations. He is the current Chairman of the Adam Scott Foundation, which provides life opportunities for disadvantaged Australian children and youth and is a Board Member for Bravehearts a national Australian child protection organisation.  Andrew is also the director of the University of Queensland Rugby Football Club and the Australia-Japan Society (Queensland) Inc., being its Past President and served on the Clayton Utz Board for 4 years between 2017 – 2020.

Brett Cook – Partner, Clayton Utz
Brett is a commercial litigation partner with specialist experience in restructuring and insolvency, where he advises on all aspects of restructurings and workouts, receiverships, voluntary administrations and liquidations.

Brett is highly regarded for his exceptional track record of conducting significant and complex litigation matters across a range of issues and industries.  His broad industry experience includes rural and agricultural businesses, property developments and construction companies, airlines, retail and other trading enterprises, mining companies, investment schemes, hotels and pubs, aged care facilities and retirement villages, to name only a few.  Brett has acted both for and against company directors in relation to allegations of breach of their director duties.
